Seiko 6306-7000 Turtle - 1976

An absolute icon of the dive-watch world and often seen as a must-have for watch enthusiasts just like a Speedy or Sub, the Seiko 6306 and 6309 were introduced after the more commonly known 6105 Willard and were originally designed to be a lower-cost option to the 6105. They became extremely popular in their own right, and were produced all the way up until 1988.

The version we have here is the JDM-only 6306-7000, which features a higher jewel count in the movement, hacking seconds and a different date wheel to world market 6309’s, and is quite rare as it was produced only for about a year.

This particular 6306-7000 dates from August 1976, and is in spectacular vintage condition. The case lines are sharp, and does not show signs of over polishing. Has dings, dents and scratching commensurate with its age. Bezel action is crisp. All numbers visible on the case back.

The dial is original and in amazing condition. All tritium plots in place with minor wear. Tritium is also present in the hands. You’ll note that the plots and hands are slightly different in colour. This is because the hands and dials were manufactured separately, and is correct. Matching hands and plots are often relumes. Some very slight milkiness under the glass, perhaps from some moisture.

Service history is unknown. These can’t be manually wound so timing is difficult to ascertain. Appears to be running well for its age, and movement looks very clean.

Currently mounted on a UG Nato strap which suits it perfectly, and comes with a Watch Vault travel case and cleaning cloth.

An amazingly well preserved example of an iconic dive watch.
