Jaeger LeCoultre Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea Q2028470

One of our coolest watches from our favourite era of JLC. A tribute to the original Memovox Deep Sea which was released in 1959 as the first automatic diving watch to feature an alarm function, JLC simply knocked it out of the park with this limited edition of 959 pieces released in 2011. This is peak JLC for us.

Utilising a stainless steel case measures in at 40.5mm across the case, up from 39.8mm of the original, 49.4mm lug-to-lug with a thickness of 14mm, with 100m of water resistance. The alternating brushed and polished surfaces are a masterclass in case finish and how to hide thickness, which a lot of other manufacturers should take note of.

Within this case lies a stunning matte black dial with an almost eggshell finish that looks amazing in direct light. As this is the European spec, it features a very simple dial without the writing present on the US-spec pieces. It features ecru lume plots to match the colouring of the bezel and lumed hands, and suits it perfectly. It's topped with a plexi crystal for an authentic vintage feel.

Powering it is the calibre 956 automatic movement with alarm complication and a 45 hour power reserve. It's mounted to the awesome JLC leather Tropic-style strap with simple JLC polished pin buckle.

This particular piece was first sold in Europe in 2013 and presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition. It is in lovely condition, showing only some minor hairlines and swirlies, and some strap change marks on the rear of the lugs. The leather strap shows some creasing, but has not begun to crack or flake which all of these textile/rubber look JLC straps of this era seem to do after time. Service history is unknown. All functions operating as they should, and running at around +8 seconds per day.
