Cartier Santos Dumont XL W2SA0025 Steel and Rose Gold Limited Edition

Cartier has had a huge resurgence of late within the watch collector community, and with very good reason. Not only the originator of the wrist-watch as we know it today, their unfailing dedication to their own aesthetic makes them instantly recognisable, and are deserving of the respect and reverence they command.

Along with the Tank line, the Cartier Santos line is perhaps their most well known, with this iconic line being widely recognised as the birthplace of the wrist watch. Created at the request of early-Aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont by his friend Louis Cartier, not only was it the first wrist-watch, but also the first tool-watch.

The version we have here is the W2SA0025, the largest of the Santos Dumont series measuring in at 46.6mm x 33.9mm. This is a rectangular watch, so the 33.9mm tends to wear quite a bit larger than it’s on paper spec suggests. It features a stainless steel case with rose gold bezel, sunray rose gold dial with stamped wave guilloche within its centre, with applied Arabic markers, and finished off with blued steel hands. Finishing it off is the 430 MC manual wind movement, and it's mounted to an elegant 'gator strap with steel tang buckle.

This particular was first sold in September 2021 and presents in TZ Excellent condition. The case shows light scratches and swirlies on the polished surfaces, and the bezel shows the same. The brushed surfaces show a few minor marks. Nothing deep, and all easily taken care of when it's due to for its first service. Please see images for full condition details.

The strap is in lovely condition, as is the buckle.

No service history, but far too new for that. Keeping time at around +11 secs a day at time of writing.
