Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph 81020-11-631-11A 42mm - 2022
Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph 81020-11-631-11A 42mm
Released at SIHH 2017, its fair to say the new Laureato was met with mixed responses, its detractors claiming an all-too close resemblance to another famous steel, octagonal sport watch with a patterned dial. But to dismiss it as an impostor would be doing yourself and it a disservice, especially as the Laureato has been around since 1975, pre-dating the Nautilus from Patek Philippe. But there is no need to defend the Laureato, as it does a pretty good job of doing that itself for those who take the time to delve into the details.
Starting with the case, which is perfectly proportioned, hitting that sweet spot of 42mm and 12mm thick. It combines with a superbly constructed and articulated integrated bracelet to be ultra-comfortable on the wrist.
The dial is spectacular in pictures, but even better in person, with the Clous de Paris pattern picking up and reflecting the light, and combines with the circular pattern on the sub-dials to create a dial of great depth. Its powered by an in-house automatic movement, and featured 100m of water resistance. It really is a go-anywhere, do anything-watch and represents amazing value for money for the watchmaking involved.
This particular piece was first sold locally in 2022 and presents in TZ 'Good' condition. The case shows some light scratches, but overall very clean. Bezel shows a few very small pin dents, and some rub marks. You'll see under direct sunlight you can see a hazing/scratching around the bezel, as if it's been wiped with something coarse, and this disappears in indirect light. It's not deep, but all around the bezel. Have included photos both in the sunlight, and out of it for reference. Please see images for full condition details.
Bracelet shows desk diving marks throughout, and has enough links to fit a 7.4in wrist. No spare links.
No service history, but a little too young for that. Chrono starts, stops and resets as it should. Keeping time at around +10/+11 secs a day at over 300 degrees of amplitude.
Includes outer box (shows wear), inner box, warranty card dated 2022, instruction booklet and hang tag.
RRP on these is now north of $30,000 AUD. Bargain buying, and a huge amount of watch for the money.
