IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XII Automatic Tritium IW3241
The Mark XI is considered by many to be one of the greatest military watches ever produced. Produced from 1948 all the way through until 1981, it was used by RAF initially, then the FAA and in 1950 began being used by our very own RAAF here in Australia, and set the standard for what a Pilots watch should be.
The Pilot's watch form IWC lay dormant all the way until 1993 when the Mark XII was released, which is the watch we have here today. Designed as a more civilian-friendly Pilot's watch, it introduced automatic winding with its IWC caliber 884/2, which was based on the JLC caliber 889/2, and the addition of a date wheel, while still retaining the classic proportions and aesthetic of the Mark XI.
The case is 36mm and made in steel with a fully brushed finish. It houses a black dial with creamy tritium markers at 3,6,9 and 12, and is topped with tritium hands which have aged to a lovely hue. A discreet date window lies at 3.
This particular piece would date to the 90's and presents in excellent good vintage condition. Has been worn, and the case and bezel show scratches and dings throughout consistent with its age. The dial is in lovely condition. Hands are full, with cracking present in tritium of the minute hand. It's still all there, but could do with some stabilisation. Comes mounted to a brand new handmade German Fluco leather strap in a short size, with IWC tang buckle.
Service history is unknown. Currently keeping COSC time at 300+ degrees of amplitude, so assume it would have had some attention in the not too distant past.
