Omega Renaissance Museum Specialties Centenary 1894 Limited Edition 5950.32.03
Released in 1994, the Museum Specialty 1894 was created as a celebration of 100 years of the Omega name and is a very special piece. Utilising new old-stock movements, the calibre 269 is from the 30 series family of Omega movements which are renowned as being one of the finest ever created. Just ask Roger Smith. This historically significant movement is paired with a case and dial design that evokes those of the 30's and 40's, and is very much an ode to this era of watchmaking. It's a vintage watch, created for the modern era.
The case itself is made of 18k rose gold, and measures in at 36mm, 44.8mm lug to lug, and 10mm thick. The lugs are quite straight, so tends to feel a mm or two larger on the wrist. It has spectacular brushed and polished surfaces, and feels like a vintage watch made yesterday. The two tone dial is looks like its straight out of the 40's, with a silvered minute track with rose gold dot markers, a brushed rose gold hour track with applied gold indices to match the gold hands, and then a silvered centre section with sunray finish and a snailed sub-seconds at 6 featuring a blued steel second hand. Simply superb.
This particular example would date from 1994 and presents in excellent vintage condition. The case shows some minor swirls and hairlines on the polished surfaces, and a few very minor rub marks on the brushed surfaces. The case back shows some rub marks and mild scratches. Currently mounted to a lovely handmade HANDDN Saffiano strap with OEM Omega gold buckle.
Service history is unknown. Currently keeping time at around +10 seconds a day at high 200's amplitude. Winds very smoothly. There's some dust and slight oxidisation on some of the main plates, and a few minor marks.
Comes as watch-only, no box or papers.
Lovely example of one of Omega's best references in the last 30 years.
