Wittnauer Professional Chronograph 6002/5

Wittnauer Watch Co. is an American-based Swiss watch importer, and made a name for themselves in the 1890’s as the Longines importer into the US, and late moved into making watches of their own. While not a name that is mentioned amongst the likes of Rolex, JLC, Cartier and Vacheron when thinking of mid-century watchmaking, they created some absolutely stunning pieces in this era with our favourite being the Wittnauer Professional Chronograph ref. 6002/5 seen here.

Bearing a striking resemblance to the Rolex Pre-Daytona 6234, it even utilises the same movement to power it in the form of the manual winding, column-wheel Valjoux 72, perhaps on of the most famous chronograph movements of all time.

The example we have here dates to the 1960’s, and features a steel 36mm case that is in very good condition. It has been polished at some point, but retains it’s original case shape.

The stunning tri-colour dial has a nice even patina to it, with the lume on the numerals ageing to a beautiful hue. There is speckling on the dial, with some hand drag present. There is also some moisture marks on the outer edge of the dial, most prominent between 12 and 1.

Hands are original blued steel and show a matching patina, with partial tritium loss. Comes with original Wittnauer crown and screw back case.

Service history is unknown. Chrono starts, stops and resets as it should. Currently timed within a minute per day with chrono running.

This is an outstanding ex ample of a beautiful vintage Wittnauer.
