Gallet MultiChron 12HR Valjoux 72 Chronograph

For those unfamiliar with Gallet & co., they have a history dating back to the 1400's and are a very important figure in the wrist-worn chronograph. They were the first company to produce a true wrist-worn chronograph, and in 1936 created the worlds first chronograph wrist-watch with water resistant cases, something the company became world renowned for across the following half-century.

By far their most famous line is the MultChron, most famously worn by the F1 driver Jim Clark in later EP40-spec. This particular example is one of the Valjoux 72 powered pieces, and is a stunning example from a time that manually-wound chronos ruled the horological world.

This particular piece dates from Circa late 60’s-70’s and presents in excellent vintage condition. The flat black dial is original, and the tritium markers glow brightly then fade quickly as is correct for tritium of this time. The dial itself is in spectacular condition, and printing is sharp and clear.

The original handset is slightly brighter in colour, and glows for longer under UV-light compared with the markers.

The 37mm steel case is extremely well preserved, and shows sharp lines and even lugs. The screw-down case back is also in excellent condition, with clear stamping on the inside. Acrylic domed crystal is in fantastic condition. Original unsigned crown.

Specific service history is unknown. Valjoux-72 movement is very clean, and running at -21 secs per day at a strong 266 degrees of amplitude.

Currently mounted on an Italian Colareb Siena leather strap with tang buckle. No other accessories are included.

Spectacular example of one of the most famous pieces from a historically significant watchmaker.
