Movado Super Sub-Sea 206-704-501
The Movado Super Sub-Sea is an icon of the vintage dive watch world, and revered by those in the know. Looking almost identical to the Zenith A277 of the same period, the two brands worked very closely together during the late 60's resulting in two very similar looking pieces, with the companies eventually merging in 1969.
Unlike most pieces from this era, the Super Sub-Sea features dimensions more commonly seen on Divers from 2022. It's Super Compressor case is 41mm in diameter, surrounded by a bi-directional matte black bezel with tritium pip, and houses a reverse panda dial with tachymetre scale, applied Movado logo, large tritium markers and blued hands for the sub-dials. Like the Zenith, it too is powered by 146 ZHP chronograph calibre.
This example is in magnificent vintage condition. The dial is near-perfect, with tritium markers in place showing light degradation and matching hands. The hands show some scratching, and have had the tritium stabilised.
The case is in excellent condition, with clear bevels and even lugs. Shows some dings and scratches commensurate with its age.
It's mounted to a period-correct Zenith ladder-style bracelet with MB endlinks. Shows some stretch, and will fit up to a roughly 7.5in wrist.
Service history is unknown. Currently running at around +25 secs per day at 280+ degrees of amplitude. Chrono hand resets around +1 minute.
No box or papers. Comes with Watch Vault cleaning cloth and Watch Vault Travel Case, and an aftermarket textile strap.
