Cartier Santos Dumont Black Lacquer WSSA0046
Cartier has had a huge resurgence of late within the watch collector community, and with very good reason. Not only the originator of the wrist-watch as we know it today, their unfailing dedication to their own aesthetic makes them instantly recognisable, and are deserving of the respect and reverence they command.
Along with the Tank line, the Cartier Santos line is perhaps their most well known, with this iconic line being widely recognised as the birthplace of the wrist watch. Created at the request of early-Aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont by his friend Louis Cartier, not only was it the first wrist-watch, but also the first tool-watch.
The version we have here is the W2SA0046, measuring in at 43.5mm x 31.4mm, and just 7.3mm thick in stainless steel. This is a rectangular watch, so the 31.4mm tends to wear quite a bit larger than it’s on paper spec suggests. It's party piece is the use of black lacquer to infill the engraved bezel and lugs, accentuating the sleek silhouette of the Santos case and creating a beautiful effect under different lighting conditions. All of this surrounds a black dial with square motif pattern, and applied polished Roman markers. Finishing it off is the 430 MC manual wind movement, and it's mounted to an elegant 'gator strap with steel tang buckle.
This particular was first sold in Q1 2024 and presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition, with no signs of wear we can see other than some minor hairlines on the case back. Please see images for full condition details.
The strap is in near-new condition, and not yet fully broken in.
Under Cartier warranty, which can be extended until 2032 if desired.
Comes with outer box, inner box, instructions, Cartier Care booklet, warranty card dated Q1 2024 and Watch Vault cleaning cloth.
