Laine V38 Anthracite Guilloche
A darling of the Indie world, Finnish-born Master Watchmaker Torsten Laine’s eponymous brand has been creating stunning pieces since 2016. Laine received the Lange Watchmaking Excellence Award in 2014, and has worked at Lange and alongside Kari Voutilainen, so you know he knows how to make a finely finished watch.
Known for their lovely hand finished movement and amazing in-house dials, his original pieces were based around Unitas movements and therefore necessitated a slightly larger case at 40.5mm. Though a lovely size, it wasn't for everyone, and in response to customer demand he created the V38 line with it's 38mm case thanks to the use of a Vaucher 5401 movement.
The case is fashioned in stainless steel, and is classic in its proportions with its broad 20mm lug spacing, 45mm lug-to-lug and 9mm thickness.
While the case is undoubtedly superb, the real magic of Laine lies in the dial and movement. This particular piece is their triple guilloche, with hand-turned guilloche along the hour track, centre dial and sub-seconds, along with a brushed sub-seconds track and minute track, all executed in anthracite. It also features applied Breguet numerals, and is topped with mirror polished steel hands.
The Vaucher 5401 movement is very nicely decorated, with Côtes de Genève, circular graining, polished bevels, and engraved tungsten micro-rotor.
Originally purchased in October 2023, it presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition, with barely any signs of use other than perhaps the very lightest of swirl marks. Please see images for full condition details.
