Breguet Marine Big Date Black Dial 5817ST - 2014

One of our favourite pieces from Breguet, this now discontinued version of the Marine series is a spectacular high-horology sports piece.

Featuring a 39mm steel case, it wears larger than its spec suggests thanks to the broad, straight lugs and measuring in at 50mm lug-to-lug. The sides of the case feature a beautiful coin-edge finish, with a double stepped bezel and it measures in at just 12mm thick, while being water resistant to 100m.

Housed within this special, handmade case is a solid gold dial that is galvanised black. The centre is hand guilloched, with applied indices surrounding the minute track, and it is all topped with lumed white gold hands. Powering it is the calibre 517GG, based on the brilliant F.Piguet 1150 movement, and features twin barrels with a 65 hour power reserve. It is superbly hand finished, with anglage, black polished screws and hand-applied cotes de Geneve, and is topped with a gold guilloche rotor matching the dial. It is mounted to a lovely 'gator strap with Breguet steel deployant.

This particular piece was first sold in 2014 and presents in TZ Good condition. Case and bezel shows some rub marks, scratches and a few small dings from regular wear. Buckle shows desk diving marks. The dial shows a few scrapes as well, which to us looks as though it was mishandled by a watchmaker at some point. These are evident to the right of the centre pinion, with two marks there, and another inboard of the 8 marker. The outer track also shows some small marks, and the hands show scratching. Crystal has a few scratches present, and there’s some dust flecks on the dial. Markers show oxidisation under a loupe. Strap shows some wear, but plenty of life left in it yet. Serviced by Breguet in June 2022 at a cost of $2,000 AUD, mechanically it is running beautifully. All functions operating as they should, and keeping COSC time.

These are rare to see in black dial configuration, and has been priced in acknowledgement of the dial marks.
