Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Day Date Moonphase Yellow Gold Ref 47009

A stunning reference from the pre-Richemont era of Vacheron Constantin, the 47009 is a classical beauty that embodies everything we love about VC.

The case is made from 18k yellow gold, and measures in at a traditional dress size of 34mm. The case itself feels of a very high quality, and is aesthetically stunning to our eyes with its double-stepped bezel and discreet pushers being the only obtrusion in the case other than the crown. The lugs are quite long and straight, allowing it to feel a little larger on the wrist. My wrist is 7.6in, so looks a little on the smaller side in images, but if you have sub-6.8in wrists you're right in the wheelhouse for this.

Within this case lies a 'Clous De Paris' hobnail Sigma dial in an almost champagne hue. The 18k markers are applied, as is the Maltese Cross motif. At 9 you have a day of the week, perfectly balanced by the date at 3 and the stunningly executed moonphase at 6. This is a watch that rewards careful inspection, with its slightly sunken registers with gold surrounds, and three dimensional hands. It is one of the most stunning pieces I've had in my hands, and it is this sort of watch that explains the hype surrounding neo-vintage dress pieces over the last couple of years. It's a totally different thing to modern VC's.

Powering it is the VC calibre 1126 automatic, based around the JLC 889, famed for its accuracy and reliability.

The dial itself is in wonderful condition, with small wear to the 'Automatic' text and some very minor patina across some of the hobnails. Hands show some light oxidisation, and some minor scratches under a loupe.

The case is wonderfully preserved, with some minor scratching and some tiny nicks. The area where the snap off case back has been removed shows some wear as expected. Please see images for full condition details.

It's presented on a brand new handmade Italian Colareb Torino leather strap with original 18k VC pin buckle, and also includes a VC Lizard strap which shows wear but still perfectly usable.

Was serviced in 2020 by the previous retailer Bulang and Sons. Doesn't manually wind, so hard to get a proper reading on timing, but we wore it across a few days and then popped it on the timegrapher and it was showing around -1 to +1 second a day at mid-200's amplitude.
