Bulgari Octo Finissimo Titanium Tadao Ando Limited Edition

For us here at Watch Vault, the Octo Finissimo series is one of the most refreshing releases of the past decade and one that will no doubt be a future icon in the world of horology.

There have been many amazing releases in the series, but this Tadao Ando edition must be up there for the greatest Octo's ever made, and in our opinion one of the coolest watches released in the past decade. For those not aware of Tadao Ando, he is a world famous architect known for his use of concrete and glass, with sharp lines and light play, a parallel seen in the Octo series. This is particularly evident in the Titanium pieces in our opinion, as the all matte surfaces somehow appear to absorb and reflect light due to their surface finishes, with the shadows created being just as important as where the light is being reflected.

The Ando edition I (there's a second edition in ceramic, too) is the most pure in our opinion, and features the most magnificent dial with a circular motif beginning at the sub-seconds, and spiraling outward. All markers have been removed, as has the Bulgari branding, a big step for any company to take and they should be applauded for doing to in order to not interrupt the design. When you have someone such as Fabrizio Bonamassa Stigliani as your head of design, I'm not surprised they made the right choice here.

The rest of the watch is as per the regular earlier titanium time-only Octo Finissimo, with the case fashioned in matte titanium, which is an astonishingly thin 5.15mm while measuring 40mm across. It’s powered by the micro-rotor BVL 138 calibre, which measures in at a scant 2.23mm thick and was the worlds thinnest automatic movement in the world upon release.

Along with this ridiculously thin case, the integrated titanium bracelet is a wonder in itself. Again, super thin, perfectly formed links taper to a double-fold clasp with it’s own little party trick. The folding mechanism is partially recessed into the clasp and links, helping it to be ultra-comfortable, and ultra-thin.

This particular piece was purchased locally in December 2020 and presents in TZ Mint condition, with only the lightest hints of any use. Please see images for full condition details.
