Cartier Tank A Vis Collection Privée 2484

Launched post quartz crisis, the Collection Privée Cartier Paris, or CPCP as it was later known, was created to remind the horological world just how rich the heritage of Cartier's watchmaking is. And make no mistake, Cartier is one of the most important brands in horology, and the CPCP collection contains some of their most iconic and beautiful designs from the past, while ensuring they were technically accomplished and historically sympathetic with all pieces utilising a manual wind movement, the antithesis of quartz. A celebration of historical watchmaking if you will.

This particular piece is known as the Tank à Vis, and is based on the historical Tank Étanche from 1931, wit the addition of four distinctive screws on the bezel to give a modicum of water resistance. The case itself is quite masculine despite its modest proportions by today's standards, and measures in at 27mm by 31mm, with an 8mm thickness and a lug-to-lug of 39mm, and the wide lugs and broad bezel with classic dimensions is a stunning combination. It's fashioned in 18k yellow gold, with a combination of polished and beautifully brushed surfaces, with the classic blue sapphire cabochon.

As per all CPCP pieces other than the Cintree, the dial features a central rose motif, with a guilloche pattern which then radiates throughout the rest of the dial. Atop this dial sits classic blued hands, and the dial is signed Cartier Paris which is again a feature of the CPCP range.

Powering it is a Cartier 437MC manual wind, which sits behind an enclosed case back. This particular example is mounted to an aftermarket strap in an uncommon 18/18mm size to suit the 18k deployant. This lack of taper also adds a different flavour to the Tank à Vis, making it feel broader on the wrist.

This particular piece was first sold in 2006 and presents in excellent neo-vintage condition. The case shows some light scratches and minor scuffs, and there's a small ding on the upper bevel line of the mid-case around 4 o'clock. Strap shows some creasing where its been folded through the deployant. Buckle shows some desk dive marks. Please see images for full condition details.

Service history is unknown, but the presence of a few case back stickers indicates it's likely had a couple in its time. Currently keeping COSC time at mid-200's amplitude, and winding is smooth.
