Heuer Autavia ‘Jo Siffert’ Automatic Chronograph 1163T - 1972

We’re big fans of vintage Autavia’s here at WV HQ, and this particular version is perhaps our very favourite. Known as the ‘Siffert’ in collecting circles due to its presence on the wrist of famous driver Jo Siffert, who raced and won in F1, at Daytona, Sebring, and Targa Florio and unfortunately passed away in an accident in 1971.

Regardless of the connection to Mr Siffert, the watch is absolutely stunning in its own right. The contemporary 42mm sized steel case couldn’t be from any other era, and looks amazing. It presents in excellent vintage condition, with lovely finishes and very sharp bevels. Case back has a personal engraving dated 1972. Serial numbered 20X,XXX.

Housed within this case is a white Mk 3 dial with black subdials, and signature blue accents. Condition is near-perfect. All tritium plots in place. Hands are original with only minimal degradation and free from cracks.

Powering it is one of the first automatic chronographs, the Calibre 11, which was serviced in March 2020 by Michael Woods of Woods Watchmaking. Chrono operating as it should, and keeping COSC time.

To top it off, this particular example also features the lovely Gay Frères Heuer bracelet which looks great, is super comfortable, and very desirable. Clasp code is 2/72, endlinks are stamped HLF, it’s fully linked and stretch is minimal.

This is an absolutely spectacular example of a highly sought after vintage Heuer. They don’t come much better.
