Ressence Type 5B

Quite simply one of the coolest Indie brands out there in our opinion, Ressence burst onto the scene in 2010 with a genuinely refreshing take on telling-time and have been going from strength to strength ever since.

Utilising an in-house module known as ROCS which sits atop an ETA base, the acronym stands for Ressence Orbital Convex System and is a magnificent piece of engineering which allows the subdials and main disc to constantly revolve around the face. Time-telling becomes quite intuitive once you’re used to it, with the dial showing minutes along the outer track on the main display, hours on the largest subdial, a day of the week indicator and seconds indicator.

This particular version is their take on a dive watch, and known as the Type 5. The case is crafted in titanium and is inspired by the shape of a turtle, is one of the most comfortable watches we’ve ever strapped to our wrist. Its lack of crown means that despite its size there is nothing to dig into your skin, and its very lightweight at just 87 grams. The lugs are also extremely short, and when combined with the awesome textile strap helps achieve a perfect fit with no movement on the wrist, while not making you feel constricted as some combinations can. This attention to detail and focus on adapting the watch to the user rather than the other way around is what sets Ressence apart from its peers.

The dial itself is deep black, and its calling card is that it has zero reflections under water when testing out its 100m of water resistance. The lume packs a serious punch, too. I could sit here for hours explaining everything that is cool about this watch, but Ressence do a far better job than I ever could. This particular example was first sold in December 2022 and presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition, with only the very feintest hints of use present. Please see images for full condition details.
